like eyes
staring back at him
underneath the abyss that is the night
He reached out
with his arm

to seize one
in the palm of his hand
Instead he touched

darkness
that crawled into his veins
and down his spine
crawling into his skin
like little fishes
that live at the bottom of the sea.

The stars did not change
They just shifted across the night
Until they come back again
To feast on the darkness
